We Must Carry Our Own Water

After considering the condition of our society and the complacency within the church I see a direct connection between the two. The way I see it, when we elect politicians whose moral basis is not grounded in scripture, we deserve what we get. As a matter of fact, when they do things against our traditional values it should not startle us. If a person’s compass is not pointing toward the gospel of Jesus, they will almost always do what is best for them regardless how it affects others morally. When they do not protect marriage or the rights of the unborn they are doing exactly as we should expect. When they propose legislation that scrubs God from our culture we should know that is what they are supposed to do as non-believers.Upholding Godly values is not their job or responsibility.

Carrying the message of traditional values and supporting actions that uphold traditional values is the job of the church. We the church has traded the fear and respect for God for the political correctness and the favor of man. Many pastors get a bit nervous when it comes to discussing a Biblical worldview relative to current events for fear of people leaving their church. Worse yet, churches have bowed to the IRS instead of GOD.

If America is to become a land where the people rejoice, then the church will have to lead the way. If this country continues on its current path, one day, the name of Jesus will be considered hate speech. The unbelievers are doing what is expected of them, the church must do its job and let God do the rest. We can not sit on the sidelines and silently pray, we must get on the field and advance the ball.

It is not easy to take that first step. It is much like getting into the pool for the first time early in the summer…the water seems a bit hard to get used to. Much like the water, the arena of public policy seems dangerous and risky, but the greater risk is in no involvement at all. If we don’t carry our water, who will? It is our job, not the job of the unbelievers. We will all answer to God for our actions and non actions. I for one will not have to answer for complacency.
